My Life without Google

google website on the electronic device screen

It is quite amazing how I have indexed my life so much into a particular company. Using all the products of Google, I am an avid Googler like many of us. Many of us would blindly agree that they fully trust Google about their information privacy and security, and correctly so, as Google is one of the safest and simplest way to accomplish all our tasks. Starting from their search engine, blogging platform, product search, calendar, the list goes on. And it’s very difficult to find substitutes that match the efficiency and simplicity of the systems!

It is very difficult to imagine what would have happened had Google not existed. Their closest competitors in the search engine segment, the Live search, or lately the Bing beta even doesn’t close to satisfactory results. Add with it Google’s continuous effort at optimizing their efficiency. Can I ever imagine reading my updates without Google Reader? With just one account so many diverse features come at your fingertips. Google’s closest competitors has to come somewhat close to them, if not beat them to attract common users like us. To match the product quality of so many cool stuffs like Picasa, Gmail, Google Desktop Search, Google Maps and Google Earth sure is a tough job, but who knows what the future awaits! Probably Microsoft itself comes up with something better!!! Or could be someone other unknown dark horse in the market 😛

It is a very queer feeling to know that your every keystroke, your every search is stored in Google’s database, all that you have searched over the years, all your transactions, all your chats are constantly being overlooked by someone. It’s true Google takes utmost care of it privacies. But who knows, cases when governments requests information from Google to know about their citizens is a tricky situation. Google refused once way back in early 2006, as appeared in an Washington Post article, but how long can they keep their user’s data private from the world is a big issue now. However, I simply cannot imagine the internet without Google, for the next few years at least. It’s going to take some awesome products one after another to take me away from it! What about you? Share this with your friends and ask them what they think!
